Prep scoreboard: Trojans advance with playoff victory

Buford wins big; Flowery Branch, Gainesville fall

The North Hall High football team stands alone in Hall County.

The Trojans remained undefeated Friday night with a 41-20 victory over McNair in the opener of the Class AAA state playoffs at The Brickyard. They were the lone Hall County team to survive the first round of the playoffs.

The Trojans (11-0) advance to the second round against Sandy Creek (7-4) Friday at the Brickyard. Sandy Creek defeated No. 10 Hart County 23-8 on Friday in Hartwell.

Bobby Epps rushed for 150 yards and three touchdowns to lead North Hall.

In other AAA games, Flowery Branch (9-2) fell to Chamblee (10-1) and Gainesville (7-4) was ousted by Westminster (9-2) in Atlanta.

Riverside Military Academy (6-5) lost its Georgia Independent School Association playoff opener, falling 28-19 to Pinewood Christian (9-2).

Chamblee 47, Flowery Branch 34: The visiting Bulldogs scored on their first four possessions but had to pull away from a second-half tie to beat the Falcons. Jaybo Shaw finished his stellar high school career with five touchdowns (three rushing, two passing), giving him 46 for the season.

Westminster 48, Gainesville 8: Westminster's balanced offense rolled up 411 yards of offense to end the Red Elephants' season.

Carver 20, White County 13, OT: Carver (11-0), the top seed from Region 5-AAA, held off the Warriors (7-4) in overtime in Atlanta.

Class AAAA

Habersham Central 24, Marist 7: Raiders wide receiver Tavarres King broke his own school record with 12 receptions for 154 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Habersham (10-1) plays host to Cherokee (8-3) at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Class AA

Buford 56, Washington-Wilkes 6: No. 1-ranked Buford (11-0) rolled in their Class AA playoff opener. Cody Getz and Storm Johnson each had rushing touchdowns in the first quarter for the Wolves, who led 56-0 at the half.

Class A

Jefferson 24, Bowdon 13: Tyler Hill scored on a 52-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter as the Dragons scored their first playoff victory in four years. Jefferson (8-3) will visit Warren County (9-2) at 7:30 p.m. next Friday.

Gordon Lee 16, Commerce 14: The Tigers (6-5) lost on a field goal with no time left on the clock to lose their playoff opener in Chickamauga.
