HOSCHTON — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into how a 14-year-old Jackson County Comprehensive High School student died over the weekend.

Brittane Nichole Brown of Hoschton was found dead Saturday at a residence off of White Street, which is located within the city limits near city square.

The West Jackson Fire Department and Jackson County EMS responded Saturday afternoon to a 911 call at the residence; Brown had been found unresponsive by other occupants in the house who called 911. She was declared dead at the scene.

While autopsy results received Monday revealed “no obvious signs of foul play or injuries to the body,” Jim Fullington, special agent in charge of the Athens GBI office, said the cause of death is still pending.

“There’s no indication of foul play or direct physical causes of death,” said Fullington. “The death investigation is being ruled undetermined until toxicology reports are received.”

He said the state crime lab is conducting the tests and results could take from four to six weeks to come back.

Fullington said no one has been charged in the case.

“There’s just not a lot known at this time,” said Fullington. “Right now, it’s a continuing death investigation.”
Law enforcement agencies, including the Hoschton and Braselton police departments, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and GBI, responded to the scene.

The GBI, Hoschton Police and Jackson County Coroner’s Office are conducting the investigation, according to the GBI.

Brown was a student at Jackson County Comprehensive High School and, according to her obituary, played basketball and “loved life, spending time with friends, dancing, listening to music and track.”

Survivors include her mother, Shannon Poole Brown; father, Terrance Shanard Brown; and sister, Kayla Leah Brown.

Visitation is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday with funeral services to follow at 2 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Brittane Brown Memorial Fund, c/o Northeast Georgia Bank, P.O. Box 130, Braselton, GA 30517.
