No gun arrests in incident last week at Flowery Branch High

POSTED: December 24, 2008 5:00 a.m.

Hall County school officials this week dispelled false rumors that a Flowery Branch high school student was arrested on gun charges Friday.

A student who brandished a toy pistol in an overflow parking lot near the school will face disciplinary sanctions from the school but was not arrested, Hall County schools spokesman Gordon Higgins said Tuesday.

Several police and sheriff’s cars descended on Hog Mountain Park shortly after school let out at about 3:30 p.m. Friday, responding to a 911 call reporting a student with a gun. It was soon determined that a student had taken a toy gun out of another student’s car and was "waving it around," Higgins said.

"It was basically kids goofing off, but because of some bad judgement in the way they were goofing off, it caused a good bit of alarm," Higgins said.

Flowery Branch police turned the matter over to high school administrators, who are handling the matter "in-house," Higgins said.

Because of student confidentiality policies, the name of the student was not released.
