High school scoreboard: Riverside Military track has strong showing on 1st day of Region 8-A meet

The Riverside Military track team finished Thursday’s Region 8-A meet, which featured field event finals and preliminaries for track events, with a team total of 62.5 points in Athens.

Jaures Bong won the high jump at 6 feet for Riverside Military, while teammate Daniel Bennett-Blake finished in second with a height of 5 feet, 10 inches. Bennett-Blake also took second place in the triple jump with a distance of 41-06.

Isaac Teasley took first place in the triple jump for the Eagles with a distance of 43-06.

Riverside Military will compete in the track event titles and for the region championship Saturday in Athens.

Baseball

LAKEVIEW ACADEMY 8, ATHENS ACADEMY 5: JD Roark racked up two RBIs with a double for Lakeview Academy in Thursday’s contest.

Brannon Browner had a double and drove in a run for the Lions, while teammate Josh Henderson finished the night 2 for 4 with an RBI.

Lakeview Academy will hold Senior Night festivities against Towns County at 4:30 p.m. today in Gainesville.

JEFFERSON 3, MADISON COUNTY 2: Kasen Rainey, Justin Cole and Lane Watkins all drove in a run for Jefferson (16-11, 7-7 Region 8-4A) on Thursday night in Jefferson.

Brandon Trefren was the winning pitcher for the Dragons, totaling four strikeouts in seven innings. Jefferson travels to Madison County for the final game of the series at 5:55 p.m. today in Danielsville.

Soccer

GREATER ATLANTA CHRISTIAN GIRLS 7, NORTH HALL 0: North Hall will play in the first round of the playoffs next week. The team and day are to be determined.

GREATER ATLANTA CHRISTIAN BOYS 3, NORTH HALL 0: The Trojans will miss the playoffs after losing Thursday night’s game.
