Police are looking for a short black man as part of their investigation into a fatal shooting Tuesday night on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

Gainesville Police released a composite sketch of the “person of interest” in hopes the public may be able to identify him. He is described as 5 feet to 5 feet 3 inches tall, with a stocky build and closely cropped hair.

Dennis Ronald Gayton, 47, was shot in the 2200 block of MLK near Carlton Street at about 9:30 p.m., police have said. He later died at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

“(Gayton) was found in a vehicle behind the barber shop there,” police spokesman Sgt. Kevin Holbrook said.

Officers and police dogs searched the area at the time, but did not locate any suspects, Holbrook said earlier.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact Gainesville Police’s Criminal Investigations Division at 770-534-5254. An anonymous tip line is available at 770-533-5873.
