College scoreboard: North Georgia baseball team sweeps Augusta with 7-0 win

The No. 3 North Georgia baseball team completed its series sweep of Augusta and extended its winning streak to 11 games with a 7-0 victory Sunday at Bob Stein Stadium in Dahlonega.

Senior right-hander Dylan Peppers (2-1) threw eight shutout innings, striking out eight batters while allowing only three hits. The Nighthawks (21-4, 8-1 Peach Belt Conference) jumped out to an early lead when Steven Tomlinson belted a grand slam in the first inning after Jaguars starter Will Thompson walked the first three batters he faced.

Conner Corbitt hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the third, bringing North Georgia’s season home run total to 44, which leads the PBC and is fourth nationally.

The Nighthawks host West Georgia at 5 p.m. Tuesday in Dahlonega.

SOFTBALL

The third-ranked North Georgia softball team swept its doubleheader against Francis Marion on Sunday in Florence, South Carolina.

The Nighthawks (27-7, 7-2 Peach Belt Conference) needed extra innings to win Game 1. Jordan Deep hit a solo home run to tie the game at 4-4 in the top of the seventh inning, and North Georgia finally put away the game with four runs in the ninth inning en route to an 8-5 win.

Kylee Smith picked up the win, giving up just two earned runs on five hits through all nine innings.
The Nighthawks won the second game 7-4, with Smith earning the win in relief. Deep homered again, and she finished the day 4 for 5 at the plate with three RBIs and five runs scored.

North Georgia will face Georgia College at 5 p.m. Friday in Milledgeville.
