High school scoreboard: Flowery Branch boys, girls tennis teams sweep Oconee County

The Flowery Branch girls tennis team defeated Oconee County 4-1 Wednesday.

Flowery Branch’s Annabelle Thomas lost to Claire Lacksen (6-1, 6-3) in No 1. singles, and Olivia Correa defeated Julia Hardell (7-6, 6-4) in No. 2 singles for the Lady Falcons. Olivia Nance beat Miranda Gomez (6-2, 6-2) for Flowery Branch in No. 3 singles.

Peyton Brick/Kylie McGuire beat Sarah Catherine Pennell/Alexis Anderson for the Lady Falcons (6-0,6-3) in No. 1 doubles. The team of Brenna Martin/Marissa Barrett defeated Lexie Houston/Lainey Grace Frutiger for Flowery Branch (6-1,6-3) in No. 2 doubles.

The Flowery Branch boys defeated Oconee County 3-2 on Wednesday.

Winners for Flowery Branch were Drayton Matus in No. 1 singles (7-6, 6-2), Tucker Smallwood in No. 2 singles (6-3, 6-4) and Gunnar Hetzel (6-3, 6-2) in No. 3 singles. Flowery Branch’s Brody Millwood /John Hollis lost in No. 1 doubles (7-5, 6-3).

Nate Shedd/Brady McVey lost in No. 2 doubles (6-3, 6-4) for the Falcons. Flowery Branch boys are 2-1. Region play begins Tuesday for the Falcons.

BASEBALL

NORTH HALL 9, BUFORD 3: North Hall pitcher Corban Meeler threw six strikeouts in five innings Wednesday in Gainesville.

Caleb Clark recorded two hits with a double and three RBIs for the Trojans (3-0). Reese Olson had two hits with a double and two RBIs for North Hall. North Hall’s Taber Mongero collected a double and an RBI, while teammate Charlie Erickson had a double and two RBIs.

Austin Adams added a single and a RBI for North Hall. Dylan Lavendar had three hits for the Trojans.

North Hall faces West Forsyth and George Walton Academy in a doubleheader beginning 11 a.m. Saturday in Gainesville.
