CUMMING Authorities have identified Jason Aldridge, 44, as the suspect they say wielded a knife at officers before being shot by a Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office deputy on Sunday and later dying.

Deputies responded at 11:22 p.m. Sunday to a report of a suicidal man with a knife at Shady Grove RV Park on Browns Bridge Road/Ga. 369 near Lake Lanier.

The man approached them with a knife when they arrived at the RV, according to Cpl. Pete Sabella, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office.

Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Nelly Miles said Aldridge lived at the RV park.

“The male subject began to threaten the deputies with the knife within the residence,” Sabella wrote in a news release. “One of the deputies was forced to fire his agency-issued sidearm, striking the subject.”

The GBI is investigating, per procedure in officer-involved shootings.

The deputy involved in the incident has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
