North Georgia gospel trio gets Grammy nod

POSTED: December 13, 2008 5:00 a.m.

A couple of hometown girls received a nod in Thursday night’s Grammy nominations.

The new album “Ephesians One” by Karen Peck and New River, a Dahlonega-based gospel trio, was nominated for a Grammy award in the Best Southern, Country or Bluegrass Gospel Album. The group comprises Gainesville natives Peck and Susan Peck Jackson, as well as Devin McGlamery of Valdosta.

This is the second year in a row the group has received a nomination. Last year, it was nominated for the album “Journey of Joy.”

“We are so excited,” Karen Peck said in a phone interview with The Times.

“We’ve done a lot more writing on this album than the others,” she said of “Ephesians One.” “Five of the songs are original, from us. This album is just where we are with our spiritual walk with the Lord.

“We worked very hard on the album ... and we feel this album represents who we are.”

Peck said the group is making plans to fly to Los Angeles in February, when the winners will be announced. Until then, Karen Peck and New River will perform Sunday, when they have 9 and 11 a.m. performances at Free Chapel, 3001 McEver Road, Gainesville.

“We are just thankful,” she said. “We are just hometown girls living our dream.”
