Dragons highlight All-Region team

After claiming its first region title in Region 8-AA, Jefferson’s football team were honored with a total of seven players named to the All-Region team on Thursday, while Dragons coach Bill Navas was named Coach of the Year.

Twenty-three players, including one kicker from the 10 schools in 8-AA were named to the first team and second team. Honorable mentions were also included.

The 2008 region champions had four players on the first team and three players on the second team. Quarterback Darius Minor, offensive lineman Patrick Allen, linebacker Kyle Mosely and wide receiver Tab Martin earned first-team honors, while Sasser Conner, Lucas Redd and Zac Crosby represented the Dragons on the second team. Honorable mentions include Jay Fowler, Austin Przybysz, Steven Zeigler, Virgil Appleby, Caleb Meek, Zack Allen, Kyle Roberds and Hoytez Damons.

Riverside Miltary running back Julian Suber and linebackers Aaron Gambrah and Diego Osegueda-Weiner represented the Eagles on the first team. Colton Keig and Lucas Bersin were named to the second team. Logan Clemens, Kyle Glennon, Brandon McKinney, Victor Frick, Adrian Quinones, Joe Heath and Ahmad Chehab were named honorable mentions.

Banks County also has three first-team players, including 2,000-yard rusher Justin Beasley, offensive linemen Zach Dale and defensive tackle Tyler Hulsey. Billy Pinson and Justin Bowen were named to the second team. Honorable mentions include Kane Duncan, Clay Frink, Demetric Dempson, Matthew Patton, Nick Sosebee, Thomas Baker, Bill Redmon, Nathan Mathis and Lyn Hester.

Dawson County safety Ethan Brown and kicker David Scully represented the Tigers on the first team. Cody Tobias and Stephen King were named to the second team and T.J. Byrd, Evan Weatherford, Zach Johnson and Eian Perry were named honorable mentions.
