Vikings go out victorious

The East Hall High football team ended its season on a positive note picking up a 29-17 win against Gilmer on Friday night in Ellijay.

East Hall’s (1-9, 1-4 Region 7A-AAA) Austin Morgan led the Vikings with a 25-yard interception return for a touchdown and a 15-yard touchdown run.

Marcell0us Moon added a 6-yard touchdown run and Harrison Dale scored on a run from the 16.

Buford 21, Lovett 0

The Wolves (10-0) won the Region 6-AA championship and secured home field advantage in the playoffs with a 21-0 win over the Lions on Friday night in Atlanta. Buford plays host to Washington-Wilkes (5-5) in the first round of the Class AA state playoffs next Friday night at Tom Riden Stadium.

Buford junior Michael May replaced injured starting quarterback Twoey Hosch, who suffered a severe foot injury, and finished the game with 177 yards passing and two touchdowns.

South Florida recruit Demetris Murray added a touchdown run of 39-yards in the second quarter.

Murray finished the game with 108 yards.

Buford’s defense held Lovett to only 2 yards of offense in the first half.

Washington-Wilkes 42, Banks County 26

Banks County quarterback Dustin Worley led the Leopards (4-6, 3-2 Region 8B-AA) with a 14 of 28 night passing for 305 yards and a pair of touchdowns Friday night in Homer. Worley also scored on a 1-yard touchdown run.

Junior tailback Justin Beasley rushed for 66 yards on 17 carries and a touchdown and caught two passes for 81 yards and a touchdown.

Kane Duncan added two catches for 44 yards and a touchdown.

Brandon Law added three catches for 79 yards and Jamail Jennings hauled in two catches for 70 yards.

Washington-Wilkes visits Buford next Friday night in Gwinnett County. With the loss, the Leopards’ season ends.

Hart County 20, Jackson County 0

Hart County tailback Jerod Jackson led the Bulldogs (8-1-1, 6-1 Region 8-AAA) with 142 yards rushing on 20 carries Friday night in Hartwell.

Bulldogs quarterback Kurvin Curry added an 8 of 10 night passing for 109 yards and a touchdown.

Meanwhile the Bulldogs defense bottled up the Panthers. Jackson County (0-10, 0-6 Region 8A-AAAA) quarterback Chad Daniel led the Panthers’ offense with 16 yards rushing, while Cory Williams added 11 yards and Adarius Hendrix had six yards.

Marquise Gillespie led the Panthers special teams with two blocked point after attempts.

With the loss, Jackson County’s season concludes. Hart County will be the No. 2 seed in the 8-AAA Region entering the Class AAA state playoffs Friday.

Athens Academy 28, Jefferson 6

Athens Academy won its second consecutive Region 8-A title Friday night with a 28-6 win against the Dragons (7-3, 3-1 Region 8-A) in Athens.

Jefferson plays host to Region 6-A’s No. 3 seed Bowdon at 7:30 p.m. next Friday at Jefferson Memorial Stadium.

Greene County 21, Dawson County 7

Dawson County’s season concludes with a final record of 3-7, 2-3 Region 8B-AA.
