High school basketball: Lady Tigers cruise in opener

In their season opener Tuesday night, the Dawson County Lady Tigers pounded Tallulah Falls, 61-24.

Dawson County opened up a 16-2 lead in the first quarter and steadily pulled away, leading 28-8 at halftime and 48-14 at the end of the third quarter.

"It's always great to open up with a win," Lady Tigers coach Steve Sweat said. "We now must get back to work because we play (Class) AAAAA North Forsyth next Tuesday at North."

Jessi Phillips led Dawson County with 13 points, while Cheyenne Bennett and Christian Daniel each scored nine. Destinee Johnson led Tallulah Falls with 10 points.
