Thompson: True or false? Do you know your tips?

POSTED: November 23, 2008 5:00 a.m.

I haven't given a tip quiz in a while. It's time!

I'm actually making this quiz a little easier than ones in the past. All of the questions are true or false. If you don't get at least eight out of 10 correct, you'll need to send me your duct tape, rubberized shelf liner and WD-40. I'm serious. Scroll down for the answers, but no cheating! Good luck!

  • 1. You can clean smelly socks by soaking them in vodka.
  • 2. Trucks get better gas mileage when the tailgate is up.
  • 3. You can use a strobe light in your attic to keep out animals like squirrels.
  • 4. To reduce chafing, apply tapioca pudding to the sensitive areas.
  • 5. It's OK to burn colored newspaper in your fireplace.
  • 6. You can buy a water pressure gauge at most hardware stores. If your water pressure is greater than 80 PSI, you need to call a plumber. Pressures above this level can damage items in your home and wastes water.
  • 7. In a pinch, you can use hand lotion instead of shaving cream.
  • 8. You can put mini-marshmallows in your spouse's nostrils to reduce snoring.
  • 9. When you go out to buy your Christmas tree lights, you should consider getting the "LED" kind. LED stands for light-emitting diode. These lights cost about the same as your typical incandescent lights, however they last a lot longer, (200,000 hours compared to 1,500 hours for incandescent). They use about a third less electricity, which saves you money, and they run a lot cooler, which helps reduce the risk of a fire.
  • 10. Rubberized shelf liner may be one of the greatest products ever made. You can use it under car floor mats to keep them from sliding and you can also use it to remove hair from furniture.

Bonus question

True or false, last week a United Airlines flight crew had to use duct tape to restrain a belligerent female passenger when the on-board ankle cuffs were found to be too big.
