Board of Education votes to approve bonds

POSTED: November 12, 2007 5:03 a.m.

The Hall County Board of Education voted Wednesday to approve two bond issues, one that will cover future construction and another the refinancing of a 1997 bond issue projected to save the school system $689,002 over seven years.

The new construction bond issue is for $11 million and will be repaid by the district’s 1-cent sales tax program.

The district is building a new middle/high school on Spout Springs Road that is set to open in the fall of 2009.

And it is building the new Chestnut Mountain Elementary School on Union Church Road. That school is set to open in the fall of 2008.

On the refinanced bond issue, Superintendent Will Schofield said the system had been expecting to save $450,000. Lower interest rates created a greater savings for the system.
