The Times and gainesvilletimes.com are planning special coverage of World War II veterans starting Sunday and concluding on Tuesday, which is Veterans Day.

Look for special stories about local veterans on the front page of the print edition of The Times on Sunday and Monday. (Read our Sunday story here: Stories from three wars, Monday: Brothers in life, brothers in arms)

Then for Veterans Day on Tuesday, The Times is publishing a special commemorative section in our print edition honoring the service of those who have worn the uniform of our armed forces.

In the six-page section, we'll offer a special tribute to surviving veterans of World War II, the "Greatest Generation" whose sacrifice and courage led the nation to victory in history's largest conflict. Included will be profiles of several veterans who saw action in different key areas of the war, with their stories told in their own words.

We also will print a list of names submitted by readers of surviving World War II veterans in the area.

On gainesvilletimes.com, you'll be able to see videos of some veterans telling their stories in their own words.

The Times is available at news racks and retail locations throughout Northeast Georgia. To have The Times delivered to your home, click here or call 770-532-2222.
