After winning the first girls state championship in any sport in Buford High history, the Lady Wolves’ softball team has repeated.

Karly Fullem (16-1) had a complete-game 8-inning win with 13 strikeouts to lead Buford to a 5-1 win over Calhoun on Saturday in the state finals.

Fullem only walked one batter and gave up just two hits.

With the Lady Wolves (34-2-1) leading 1-0 in the bottom of the seventh, Calhoun’s Madison Dodd stepped to the plate and sent the game into extra innings by hitting a home run.

Buford would not be denied, however, scoring four runs in the top of the eighth inning to win its second straight state title.

The runs came on back-to-back-to-back two-out doubles by Alysha Rudnik, Whitney Holman and Lexi Overstreet off Calhoun pitcher Maddie Monroe to break open a 1-1 tie.

Rudnik led the Lady Wolves at the plate going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Kallie Case went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a runs scored. Overstreet went 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI and Holman and Fullen each had an RBI for Buford.
