Third annual Labor Day road race raises funds for autism

North Georgia runners will lace up their running shoes Monday, Sept. 1, for the third annual Labor Day Run for Autism.

The 10- and 5-kilometer race will happen along Peachtree Parkway or GA 141. Participants will start and finish at Totally Running, 405 Peachtree Parkway, in Cumming. The chip-timed race course is a flat and fast Peachtree Road Race qualifier. TrueSpeed photo will take pictures, which can be downloaded for free after the race.

Race start times are 7:30 a.m. for the 10K and 5K and 9 a.m. for the fun run. To register, visit

Early packet pick up will be 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 31 at Totally Running. Race-day packet pick up will open at 6:30 a.m. Monday. Race-day registration will be available at that time, too.

Custom awards will be presented to the top three overall runners, top three male and female Masters and first-place runners in age groups of five-year increments. Fun Run participants can purchase a T-shirt for $10.

A finish line festival will be in the parking lot of Totally Running.

Proceed for the race will raise funds for the Georgia Chapter of Talk About Curing Autism. TACA provides support, education and information and resources to close to 25,000 families across the United States who are touched by autism. TACA aims to speed up the cycle time from diagnosis to effective treatments and helps to strengthen the autism community by connecting families to professionals who can help them. Ninety-five percent of TACA’s programs and services are provided at no charge to families. 

Autism is a devastating neurological and biological disorder typically diagnosed in children between the ages of 18 months and 5 years old. Autism currently affects 1 in every 91 children, and an estimated near 2 million people in the United States have autism.
