Helmet giveaway promotes bike safety

Five area organizations teamed up to make a safer community Wednesday in Clermont. The main attraction under the Clay E. Gailey Park pavilion was free bicycle helmets for kids from Safe Kids Gainesville/Hall County. Safe Kids coordinator Kim Martin said the organizations gave away about 50 helmets between 4 and 6 p.m. Clermont parent Jonathan Sargent was driving by with his daughters and spotted the event. “They love to ride bikes, almost every day,” Sargent said of daughters Brooklyn, 9, and London, 6. “Brooklyn was so excited to get a new one because she’s outgrown hers.” Six ...
