Air horns, diesel engines and an occasional siren out-blasted the amplified music Saturday in City Park as children climbed on trucks and heavy equipment at the 15th annual Touch a Truck event. Twenty-seven vehicles came this year and kid turnout was good, said Missy Bailey, recreation manager for Gainesville Parks and Recreation, sponsor of the free event. “Kids love a truck,” Bailey said. “And if they can touch a truck and honk the horn ...” The annual event is an annual rite of passage for some parents. Brittany Peters of Gainesville had a group of kids in tow. “We’ve been coming since my 13-year-old daughter was 2,” Peters said.
