Church honors slain man in school supply giveaway

POSTED: August 9, 2014 1:28 a.m.

In an effort to reunite the community, Voices of Faith North church is honoring a slain Gainesville man today in a school supply giveaway.

The church is renaming its annual giveaway the “Adrian Thompson Back to School Bash” in honor of the Gainesville man who was gunned down outside Peppers Market in June 2013.

“It’s in an effort to bring the community back together. When all that happened, it kind of divided the community against each other,” said Kernisha Weston with the church.

Thompson’s mother, who worked with church officials to honor her son with the event, is a member of the congregation.

The church is at 996 Athens St. in Gainesville.
