Movie production will again cause traffic delays

POSTED: July 31, 2014 1:02 a.m.

Motorists should again expect delays today on Ga. 53/Dawsonville Highway as filming for “Goosebumps,” a movie starring Jack Black, takes place in Hall, Forsyth and Jackson counties.

“They did not get done what they needed to (Wednesday) because of technical difficulties,” said Georgia Department of Transportation spokeswoman Teri Pope.

Traffic again will be slowed on Ga. 53 from Lake Ranch Court to Marina Drive in Hall, including the bridge over the Chattahoochee River; and Ga. 53 between Dogwood Path in Forsyth and Little Hall Road at Little Hall Park in Hall, including the bridge over the Chestatee River.

And delays are expected on Ga. 11/U.S. 129/Jefferson Bypass between Galilee Church Road in Jefferson and Park Street in Arcade.

The film crew’s work will require intermittent traffic stops of up to 5 minutes between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., according to the DOT, which recommends motorists avoid the areas if possible.

Filming will begin at Lake Lanier, then move to Jefferson and Arcade, the DOT stated in a Wednesday news release.

“Local law enforcement will be in the area assisting with traffic control,” the release states. “Speed limits have been reduced and will be strictly enforced. Message boards, signs and blue lights will be utilized to alert and channel motorists through the area.”

Hall County Camera Ready Liaison Stacey Dickson said the filming is related to a chase scene in the movie, which is based on the children’s horror book series by R.L. Stine.

She said she didn’t know what the issues were on Wednesday.

“They don’t need us in the loop once they kind of find their spot and they’re doing their thing ... unless something happens where they need to change their location, need permitting help or something last-minute,” she said.

Those hoping for “celebrity sightings” or to have an autograph book handy as they approach the area should note “none of the principal actors are going to be there,” Dickson has said, adding Black has filmed in locations around Georgia for the movie.

“It will be faraway camera shots ... of cars that are being driven by stuntpeople. There’ll be nothing to see.”

Jackson County Camera Ready Liaison Joel Logan said he didn’t have many details about the Jackson shoot, other than a crew would be filming a car scene with a helicopter and that filmmakers needed an area without utility poles or driveways.

“I don’t know if any stuntpeople or actors will be involved,” he has said.
