WOODLANDS, Texas — Gainesville golfer Spencer Ralston lost his match in the round of 64 by one hole at the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship on Wednesday.

Curtis Luck of Australia beat Ralston 1-up to advance to Thursday’s round of 32 matches.

Ralston had a first-round 74 Monday and a second-round 74 on Tuesday for a 4-over 148 total and a final-64 spot at The Nicklaus Course at The Club at Carlton Woods, just outside of Houston.

It was Ralston’s second straight year qualifying for the U.S. Junior Amateur. The Red Elephant standout begins his junior year this fall.

Jordan Spieth, now the No. 11 player in the world, won the 2009 and 2011 U.S. Junior Amateur events. Tiger Woods and Hunter Mahan were also previous winners of the tournament.
