Pregnant woman hit by car ID'd as nearby resident

POSTED: July 21, 2014 1:37 p.m.

A pregnant Hall County woman was heading home from a Ga. 365 convenience store when she was struck and killed by a motorist Sunday night, a Georgia State Patrol trooper said Monday.

Kimberly Michelle Coates, 29, was crossing Ga. 365 near a Kangaroo store, traveling with a friend, Trooper Devon Fields said.

“When they crossed the righthand southbound lane, (Coates) didn’t make it out of the roadway in time,” he said.

Following the accident at 9:30 p.m., officials discovered the victim was pregnant. She and the child were pronounced dead at the scene.

Coates was in the final three months of her pregnancy, Fields said.

She lived near the scene of the accident, and “was probably only a hundred yards away from the house,” Fields said.

The driver, Joshua Buehler, 38, of Atlanta, tried to swerve to avoid hitting the woman but ended up striking her with the front of his car.

“There’s not going to be any charges on the driver of the vehicle,” Fields said.

Hall County Fire Services and the Hall County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the call.
