Gainesville man sentenced to life without parole for rape

POSTED: July 17, 2014 6:11 p.m.

A Gainesville man was sentenced to life without parole after being convicted Thursday on charges of rape and false imprisonment, according to Northeastern Judicial Circuit District Attorney Lee Darragh.

Johnny Marlow, 64, was convicted by a Hall County jury of the offenses of rape and false imprisonment, Darragh said. The crimes took place on Aug. 11.

Marlow was sentenced by Judge Andrew Fuller as a recidivist due to prior convictions for forgery in two different counties and federal income tax violations.

The court imposed a sentence of life imprisonment without parole on the rape charge and to 10 years to serve concurrent on the false imprisonment charge.

Marlow’s victim was a 24-year-old homeless woman the defendant had taken in at a Sun Valley Road, Oakwood address, Darragh said. The jury heard evidence of another 24-year-old victim who was raped by the defendant at the same location on another occasion.
