If you think you can take the heat, then register for the Hot Pursuit Summer 5-kilometer race held by the Hall County Sheriff’s office on Saturday.

The race, which includes a 1-mile fun run, starts at 8 a.m. July 19 at Riverside Military Academy, 2001 Riverside Drive in Gainesville. Participants should arrive no later than 7:30 a.m. to receive their running apparel and hospitality packets. The race will begin in the parking lot of the Riverside Military Academy baseball and football fields.

Registration costs $30 per person. Proceeds will benefit the Georgia Sheriff’s Youth Homes and its projects.

“Overall, it helps kids (who) are taken across the state by the Georgia Sheriff’s Youth Homes due to neglect, abuse, abandonment or drug infestation in their homes, to give them a better life and a nurturing environment,” Hall County Deputy Chad Mann said.

The Youth Homes project helps children get away from the hazardous events in their homes and live prosperous lives.

“Our project helps kids get a proper education,” Mann said.

Marian Wardlaw of Max Results Training in Gainesville will conduct warm-up exercises. The sheriff’s office encourages walkers to participate in the warm-up.

Refreshments will be served to prevent dehydration.

At the conclusion, Sheriff Gerald Couch will present medals to the top three male and female runners in each age bracket.

To register for the Hot Pursuit, visit or stop by Law Enforcement Center at 610 Main St. in Gainesville during normal business hours to fill out a form.
