POSTED: July 16, 2014 12:01 a.m.

Northeast Georgia Medical Center has been ranked among the best in the state according to the 25th U.S. News and World Report Best Hospitals Ranking.

Out of the nearly 190 hospitals in Georgia, NGMC ranked No. 11. The hospital performed nearly at the level of nationally ranked U.S. News Best Hospitals in two adult specialties, gastroenterology and gastrointestinal surgery and in pulmonology.

St. Joseph’s-Candler, Savannah, St. Joseph’s Hospital, Atlanta, and WellStar Cobb Hospital, Austell, were also ranked No. 11 in the state, according to the report.

The rankings are based on a number of factors, including peer reviews and other data.

NGMC has also been ranked as one of the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals, according to a study released in March by Truven Health Analytics, and Georgia’s No. 1 Hospital, according to a recent study by CareChex.

“We are pleased to receive this national recognition for our gastroenterology (and) GI surgery and pulmonology services,” says Carol Burrell, president and CEO of Northeast Georgia Health System. “This speaks to the expert care provided by our physicians and staff and further validates the state and national rankings we have received from other organizations, including CareChex, Healthgrades and Truven Health Analytics, which are based on data such as patient outcomes, safety and satisfaction.”
