Class Notes: School board meetings in Gainesville to change venue

Starting July 21, Gainesville’s regular Board of Education meeting will be held on the third Monday of each month at 6 p.m. in the municipal center on Queen City Parkway.

Board work sessions will continue to be held the first Monday of each month at 6 p.m. at the school board office on Oak Street.

Gainesville school board to revamp training sessions

Gainesville Schools Superintendent Wanda Creel and school board Vice Chairwoman Dolores Diaz announced at a school board work session the board will revamp its training this year.

Diaz said school board members are required to complete nine hours of training each year, with three of those hours being conducted as a group.

She said this year the board will complete all nine hours of training as a group, and the training will be more tailored to the Gainesville district’s needs.

2 Hall teachers to attend workshop
for educators

Kathy Mellette of North Hall Middle School, Brian Johnston of Friendship Elementary School and Tiffany Johnston of Myers Elementary School will attend a weeklong workshop for teaching environmental and watershed issues, with funding from the Georgia Aquarium and Georgia-Pacific.

The three Hall County teachers and 17 other educators are currently touring the Chattahoochee River system from North Georgia to its end in Apalachicola Bay, Fla., gaining field experience and working with scientists and rangers.
