Smoke had mostly cleared Tuesday from Gainesville Waste and Recycling after a fire started there Sunday afternoon.

A fire at Gainesville Waste and Recycling was still smoldering days after it started, but Hall County Fire Services spokesman Scott Cagle said Tuesday he expected “smoke will greatly improve, if not stop, by tomorrow.”

Little to no smoke was showing Tuesday afternoon.

Firefighters from Hall and Gainesville responded Sunday afternoon to the location on Old County Dump Road.

Several piles of construction debris were on fire, and a Georgia State Patrol helicopter was called in to fight the fire from the air.

Crews from the company were working on the site Tuesday with heavy equipment including bulldozers and excavators. The company referred all comment to Cagle.

“The heavy equipment can access it easier and closer than the air drops,” Cagle said.

The cause of the fire is unknown, but Cagle said it was not suspicious. There were no reports of injuries.
