Larry Waters goes for the no-hands finish Friday against Grant Fuller in the final of the 2014 Wrenched Bicycles Street Sprints and Crits on Bradford Street in Gainesville. Fuller took advantage of Waters' gesture to make it a close, but still second-place, finish.

The third annual Dingo Days of Summer kicked off a three-day race weekend Friday night with the 2014 Wrenched Bicycles Street Sprints and Crits.

The 450-yard sprint started on Bradford Street at the bike shop, turned around at Forrest Avenue and finished back at the starting line.

Six racers in junior and senior divisions qualified on a digital, interactive trainer to determine their performance levels and race partners.

Spectators were mostly families of the younger riders and Wrenched and Dingo Days employees.

“We had a much better turnout this time around,” Wrenched co-owner Nathan O’Neill said. “We’d like to see more riders, but it takes time to get the word out. We’re looking to grow it — it’s an interesting format.”

Larry Waters finished first overall, with Andy Luettgen in second. Davis Branyon, 14, who raced with the seniors, was third.

Junior riders finished out the field with Sean Branyon, 12, earning fourth overall, followed by Reece Latham, 10, fifth, and Grant Fuller, 13, sixth.
