Gainesville High’s Spencer Ralston fired a 3-under par 69, while Nathan Williams carded a 2-under par 70 Monday in the first round of the Georgia State Golf Association’s Junior Championship at the Brunswick Country Club in Brunswick.

Ralston is currently tied for second place, one-shot back and Williams is tied for sixth place, two shots behind first-round leader Mark David Johnson Jr. of St. Simons Island.

Garrett Rowland of White County opened with an 81.

After starting on No. 10, Ralston was at 3-under par after playing just four holes. He eagled the par-5 12th, then birdied the next hole. He was as low as 5-under on the day after he made the turn with a birdie on No. 1.

Play will continue Tuesday and Wednesday in Brunswick to decide the annual 54 hole GSGA Junior Championship.
