Used car dealership vying for county's approval

POSTED: June 13, 2014 11:14 p.m.

The Hall County Planning Commission will consider Monday whether to recommend approval for opening a used car dealership on Browns Bridge Road.

The lot has been used for auto sales for many years, but then the economy hit the skids and good tenants became hard to find.

“It was hard to get quality tenants back in,” said Jennings Bryan, the property owner. “I’m not going to just lease my property to some fly-by-night” operation.

Two years have now passed since a dealership operated at the property, but Bryan, a lifelong Gainesville resident, said he thinks the time is right to begin anew.

“In the business, we call (Browns Bridge Road) car row,” Bryan said, adding his father owned a dealer lot there in the 1960s.

If ultimately approved by the county Board of Commissioners, Infinity Auto Sales will soon open.

Bryan said he has leased property along Atlanta Highway to owner Carlos Ruiz in the past.

“So I have a little bit of history with this gentleman,” Jennings added.

The one complication is that Ruiz is proposing an inventory of 25 to 30 cars, but just 13 parking spaces are available. It is unclear how the additional parking will be accommodated.

“Right now, I’m not going to make any modifications to the property to accommodate that,” Bryan said.

Bryan also is bringing in a new tenant to a dealer lot next door to Infinity. He said Car Deals, a company based in Mableton, is planning to open its first dealership in Gainesville.

And this development means good things for the local economy, Bryan said.

“It tells me things are picking up,” he said. “We’re not back where we were in ’05 ... but I’m starting to see a little bit of an upswing in calls and in rentals.”
