Suspect is black man in a white pickup, according to incident report

POSTED: June 11, 2014 1:22 a.m.

The victim in a Gainesville shooting is identified in a Gainesville Police Department incident report  as Cedric Huff, 41.

He was shot Thursday by a black man who drove a small white two-door pickup, according to the report. The truck possibly had a tag reading “1796.”

The identity of the suspect is unknown, and he is still at large.

The incident happened at a residence in the 300 block of West Avenue, and police spokesman Cpl. Kevin Holbrook said police believe the shooter left in a vehicle. Officers and police dogs searched the area until about midnight.

Huff was shot in the abdomen in an incident classified as an aggravated assault. He was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center where he underwent surgery, police said. He had been discharged as of Tuesday, according to a hospital employee.

According to court records, Huff was a resident of a complex near the incident, Towne Creek Apartments on Washington Street. The shooting was just blocks from the complex’s Oak Street entrance.

Records indicate Huff had one prior felony conviction in Hall County on drug-related charges. He was most recently charged in the county with traffic violations and obstruction.

Police have not indicated if investigators know a motive for the attack, and are releasing few other details. The investigation remains ongoing by the Criminal Investigations Division.

The incident’s complainant was listed as a woman named Star, and she gave no last name or date of birth.
