‘Tarzan’ swings into Cumming theater today

POSTED: June 5, 2014 1:00 a.m.

Turning an animated Disney film into a live stage production is no easy task. But members of The Cumming Playhouse in Forsyth County are attempting to recreate the story with intense choreography, cirque aerialists and entertaining music.

Based on Disney’s version and including Oscar-winning music by Phil Collins (“You’ll Be in My Heart”, “Two Worlds”, “Son of Man”), “Tarzan” will debut today and run until June 22.

The story centers on a young orphaned son of an English couple, who was shipwrecked off the coast of Africa.

The boy, Tarzan, is raised by a tribe of gorillas.

When he is a man, a pretty English naturalist crosses his path and teaches him about love and civilized ways.

Performances will be at 8 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays at The Cumming Playhouse, 101 School St., in Cumming.

The tickets are $15 for Thursdays and $25 for Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and can be purchased at the playhouse or at www.playhousecumming.com.
