The Local Agenda: Gainesville to hold budget hearing tonight

Gainesville City Council will formally present its 2015 fiscal year budget when it meets tonight, and will also hold first readings to set the property tax rate for the city and school board.

The $30.3 million general fund budget includes no tax increases.

The millage rate will remain at $3.06 per $1,000 of taxable property.

Of that total, $1.77 will be used to fund general government expenses, including administration and public safety. Parks and recreation operations will be supported with $0.79, and $0.50 will go toward covering government debt.

Meanwhile, the millage rate for the Gainesville Board of Education will remain fixed at $7.59 per $1,000 of taxable property, and no amount will be spent on debt service.

City Council meets at 5:30 p.m. today in the municipal courtroom at the Public Safety Complex, 701 Queen City Parkway.

Commissioner Gibbs to host open house in North Hall tonight

Hall County Commissioner Scott Gibbs will host an open house at 6 p.m. tonight at the North Hall Park Community Center.

Topics will include the fiscal year 2015 budget, public safety and other issues of interest to District 3 residents.

Finance, public works, human resources, parks and leisure, and sheriff’s office officials will be on hand to respond to residents' inquiries.

North Hall Park is at 4175 Nopone Road in Gainesville.

SPLOST VII public input meetings scheduled

With local government officials pushing forward on a ballot referendum this fallon a new five-year round of special purpose local option sales taxes, or SPLOST VII, the public is being asked to attend three meetings this month to offer input on what projects should be funded by the tax.

County and municipal officials will host the meetings at the following times and locations:

  • 6 p.m. June 10 — Spout Springs Library, 6488 Spout Springs Road in Flowery Branch
  • 6 p.m. June 17 — Clermont Chattahoochee Center, 639 Main St. in Clermont
  • 6 p.m. June 19 — Gainesville Civic Center, 830 Green St. in Gainesville
