Author brings book three of Georgia Gold Series to town

POSTED: May 29, 2014 1:00 a.m.

Fans of the Georgia Gold book series don’t have to wait any longer.

The third installment, “The Crimson Bloom,” from Northeast Georgia author Denise Weimer debuts this spring at local bookstores. In fact, readers can pick an author-signed copy from 3-5 p.m. Saturday at Books-A-Million in Lakeshore Mall in Gainesville.

Building on the mid-1800s action, romance and mystery of “Sautee Shadows” and “The Gray Divide,” “The Crimson Bloom: transports readers to the coast and mountains of Civil War-era Georgia.

With her husband, Devereaux Rousseau, now a captain commanding Savannah’s elite Oglethorpe Light Infantry on the Civil War battlefields of Virginia, Carolyn Calhoun Rousseau must prove her own backbone as she operates the family’s last functioning farm in the hills of Habersham County. She draws on the support of her best friend, Mahala Franklin, the half-Cherokee granddaughter of a local inn owner.

Mahala battles her own frustrations with Jack Randall, a rival hotel owner and coastal shipping magnate. Jack’s continued reluctance to commit threatens to drive Mahala into the arms of her Cherokee childhood sweetheart, Clay Fraser.

Then, tragedy brings Mahala and Carolyn to Savannah just as Sherman advances on the city and forces everyone to confront their true feelings.

The Georgia Gold Series was inspired by the family letters and diaries of regional artist John Kollock, who died in March. His artwork designed exclusively for the series graces the covers of all four novels.

The cover of The Crimson Bloom depicts Factor’s Row and the Savannah riverfront. The fourth book, “Bright as Gold,” will be released Sept. 1 and feature Pomona Hall of Clarkesville.
