Class Notes: Gainesville professor honored by regents

Susan Easterbrooks, a professor at Georgia State University and a Gainesville resident, has been named a Regents’ Professor of Educational Psychology and Special Education.

Easterbrooks was selected by the University System of Georgia’s Board of Regents.

Regents’ professorships are given to “outstanding” faculty members following recommendations from a university’s president, chief academic officer, academic dean and three members of the faculty.

Easterbrooks has taught at both K-12 and college levels and has served for several national organizations including the Council on Education of the Deaf and the Council for Exceptional Children. She has also been an advocate for deaf and hard-of-hearing students.

Campbell selected as distinguished principal

Gainesville’s Fair Street School Principal Will Campbell has been selected as the 2014 Georgia Distinguished Principal from the district.

The award recognizes Campbell as someone who has “demonstrated a concern for educational excellence, instilled a love of learning, and setting the character and quality of education in the early school years” according to information about the award.

Campbell will be recognized at the July conference of the Georgia Association of Educational Leaders, as well as at November’s conference of the Georgia Association of Elementary School Principals.

Centennial wins $1,000 grant from bowling program

Centennial Arts Academy has received a $1,000 grant from the national Kids Bowl Free program.

Nominated by the Gainesville based Funtastik! on Browns Bridge Road, the elementary school is one of 50 in the country to be selected for the grant.

The Kids Bowl Free program allows children 15-and-younger to get two free games of bowling daily between April 15 and Aug. 31. Parents can register their children for the program at Funtastik! or online.
